Community Supported Agriculture?

The power of a CSA food distribution model is simultaneously a direct connection to your food source AND the support given to a small business. CSA is a model where customers support a farm in buying a ‘share’ and then receive a regular product in return. Farms are able to plan for a set number of people to produce for while consumers know they will be getting incredibly fresh, seasonal, local organic food from a farm they know and trust. Plus, members have the unique opportunity to connect with the land and the farmers who produce their food! It is a powerful way to join consumers and farmers in a socially, ecologically and financially sustainable way. We have years of experience helping other farms run their CSA programs and are entering the fourth year of our own CSA! Read on for specifics on how this looks at Earthlore Farm:

Engage in the power of mutual commitment! In buying a CSA share, you not only play a role in supporting our small farm business, you are also reducing the ‘food miles’ your meals travel and receiving the most delicious, high-quality, healthy product!

WHAT’S IN A TYPICAL BOX?

An example of a produce box may include the following categories (varies with the season):

  • 2 heads lettuce or bag of mixed salad greens

  • 1 bunch root crops: carrots, turnips, beets or radishes

  • 2 or more ‘fruiting crops’: tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini and more

  • 2 bunches cooking greens (kale, collard, pac choi or spinach)

  • Onions, scallions, garlic and/or leeks

  • Herbs—basil, cilantro, dill, oregano, rosemary and more

  • Fruit (canteloupe, watermelon, and more)

  • ‘Other’ items such as potatoes, butternut/kabocha/delicata squash and pumpkins!

Our CSA will encompass the richness of summer’s fruiting crops, the flavors of fall harvest, and the wonderful storage crops that take us into the winter season. This is a chance to experience the beauty of eating seasonally, and enjoy the diverse fruits of our labor!

What’s in the LOCAL GOODS Add-on Option?

  • Rotating monthly items can be included in your delivery

  • 2-3 items every other box

  • Pickles, salad dressings, hot sauces, locally milled grains (oats, flour, cornmeal), dry beans or bread loaves (selections varies each month)

JUST A FEW MORE REASONS TO BE AN EARTHLORE FARM CSA MEMBER:

HEALTH

Commit to yourself and the health of your family by locking in healthy food deliveries. Our produce is nutrient-dense, growing using organic practices and each box has items that can be eaten raw or cooked.

LOCAL ECONOMY

This partnership helps build strong local economies by buying from a small developing farm business. Too often we choose convenience over intentionally placing our money to support small businesses. Help make the dream of a financially viable small farm a reality.

CLIMATE CHANGE

We have all seen the devastating effects of climate change across the world. Agriculture accounts for around 10% of emissions in the US. Help play a small role in slowing climate change by reducing the ‘food miles’ that your food typically travels, thereby reducing emissions.
